Spider’s webs, galaxies of stars or luminescent shoals of fish? What is it we are seeing? Thousands of tiny points of light move rapidly or slowly. The nature of this mysterious phenomenon which the Japanese light artist and architect has created with his installation ›Analemma‹ at the KunstKulturKirche Allerheiligen soon becomes apparent. With helpers from Frankfurt, Chida weaves a huge three-dimensional net. Projectors create narrow strips of light, leaving light points where they hit the threads. »Analemma« describes an astronomic phenomenon known since antiquity: the figure described by the sun if one observes and records it every day from the same vantage point at the same time. When all these positions are superimposed and plotted, the elliptic movement of the earth leads to an elongated figure eight. Like the observation of the sun, Chida’s installation invites the visitor to become aware of the space in and through which one is moving.
