The Cologne-based composer Jaeduk Kim is interested in the interaction between instrumental and electronic sound in the same space. Through the acoustic space which consisted of diverse noises along with pitch, he attempts to construct unique soundscapes and gestures. Through his music he enables the listeners to feel the physicality of sound, the timbre, the colour, the mass, the weight of sound.
Jaeduk Kim recently graduated with a master’s degree from the Haute école de musique de Genéve, where he studied composition with Michael Jarrell, Luis Naón and Gilbert Nouno and was supported by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation. He obtained a bachelor’s degree the from Korea National University of Arts in composition and orchestral conducting. Since 2023, he is studying with Miroslav Srnka at the Cologne Academy of Music and Dance towards an advanced concert degree.
Ensembles and soloists who have performed his works include the ensemble Barcelona Modern, Ivan Bushev (of the Moscow Contemporary Ensemble), the Divertimento ensemble, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Schallfeld, NEC Ensemble, Les percussions de Strasbourg, Ensemble Timf and the Korean National Symphony Orchestra; his new compositions will be premiered by the ensemble Musikfabrik.
