Yannick Mayaud is a prize-winning conductor with a particular interest in new composition, which has led him to form and direct Orchestra in the Shape of a Pear: a flexible Birmingham-based ensemble specialising in new music and the repertoire of the late 20th century.
Yannick studied conducting with Daniele Rosina, Edwin Roxburgh and Denise Ham, winning the Michael Beech conducting award during his studies, and was selected to participate in masterclasses with Martyn Brabbins, Kazuki Yamada and Timothy Redmond among others. He is in demand across both the UK and France, having conducted the Dartington Festival Orchestra in concert and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Paris Mozart Orchestra in masterclass, alongside conducting engagements with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra and various University of Cambridge ensembles.
Yannick received a distinction for his MMus in Orchestral conducting from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and holds a first-class degree with distinction in music from Pembroke College, University of Cambridge, where he was also awarded the Peter de Somogyi Memorial Prize for most distinguished performance in an arts subject and the Turner Prize for music.
