Swiss-born Rafaële Giovanola, originally from Monthey, was born in Baltimore, U.S.A. From the age of six, she was introduced to ballet in her hometown, then continued and completed her ballet training at the Princesse Grâce Academy in Monte-Carlo, under the direction of Marika Besobrasova.
After a long career as a soloist at Teatro Regio Torino, at Ballett Frankfurt, under the direction of William Forsythe, where she remained for eight seasons, and at Pavel Mikuláštik's Choreographisches Theater in Freiburg im Breisgau and in Bonn, in 2000 she founded the CocoonDance company with dramaturge Rainald Endraß. Her projects have won her several prizes and awards, including the Prix Culturel Valaisan, and she tours on five continents. After a three-year residency at the Théâtre du Crochetan, she became associate artist at the Crochetan in 2020.
She is responsible for dance programming at Theater im Ballsaal Bonn, and has founded a Junior Company in Bonn and Monthey.
